Tell us a little about your shop and how it got started.

Oak Barrel Café & Bakery is a family-owned café in Little Orleans, Maryland. We set out to create more than just a quick stop for fuel or food. Our goal was to build a warm, welcoming place where travelers and local residents could enjoy homemade meals, fresh bakery items, good coffee, soft serve ice cream, and unique products all under one roof.

What makes your shop or store unique within your community?

Oak Barrel is part café, bakery, convenience store, gas station, and old-fashioned roadside destination. Our rustic décor and friendly atmosphere give the shop a comfortable, homelike feeling. We are especially known for our homemade cheesecakes, fresh food, unusual gifts, and funny novelty items that customers may not find anywhere else. Oak Barrel was also featured by Business Insider as one of the best places for affordable food in Maryland.

What do you enjoy most about serving your customers?

The best part is getting to know our regular customers while also meeting travelers from all over the country. Many people stop in expecting a typical gas station and are pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, bakery, coffee, and atmosphere. We enjoy seeing customers relax, explore the store, and leave with a smile and often a slice of cheesecake.

Which Philly Fair Trade coffee do you serve or sell, and what do your customers enjoy about it?

We proudly serve Mexico Chiapa and Colombia Philly Fair Trade Organic, Fairtrade coffee in our café. Our customers appreciate its smooth, rich flavor and the freshness and quality they can taste in every cup. It gives us the opportunity to serve a better cup of coffee than people may expect from a small roadside café.

Offering Organic, Fairtrade coffee reflects the kind of business we want to operate. We care about serving quality products, supporting responsible farming practices, protecting the environment, and making sure the people who grow and produce our coffee are treated fairly. It allows our customers to enjoy coffee that is good for them, kinder to the planet, and fairer to the people behind it.

We would like people to know that Oak Barrel is worth making a special stop for. We are much more than a gas station or convenience store. We offer homemade food, famous cheesecakes and desserts, quality coffee, hand-dipped ice cream, unique shopping, and genuine small-town hospitality.
