The Story Behind the Beans

Our Philly French Roast starts with our Nicaraguan beans—then roasted to a classic French Roast profile. This darker roast highlights smoothness and depth without bitterness.

These beans are grown in the Jinotega region of Nicaragua, where native shade trees protect biodiversity and help farms earn Bird Friendly Certification. More than half of the farms use organic farming methods, ensuring both quality coffee and environmental stewardship.

The cooperative behind this coffee, UCASUMAN, was founded in 2001 and unites smallholder producers. Fair Trade premiums from their exports have funded community investments, including the construction of a new elementary school and a scholarship program for technical training. This French Roast is more than a cup of coffee—it’s a story of sustainability, empowerment, and tradition.
