Joe's trip to DC

After a busy, challenging two weeks at the roastery, I went to DC for the weekend.  It was busy, arriving Friday Sept. 20th, I dropped my bags off and caught the end of the Global Climate Strike which ended by the Capitol (which in reality is pretty far from the Capitol. For security, you can no longer approach the massive secure marble building); nonetheless we were near there. Legislators could've seen over 150,000 people, many young and millions from around the world, I hope someone looked out the window and thought...

We've known for decades there's something wrong with our planet but money, greed, and a lot of "it can't happen here" got in the way. If you're old enough, you remember masses of migrating birds filling skies, creeks and rivers with fish and frogs and many more snowy days. Now, lakes so polluted catch fire (really!), and dead zones bigger than Pennsylvania in the ocean. This can't go on.

Immense youthful optimism inhaled the time before when I was in "We The People" March on Saturday, Sept. 21st.  Support protests took place in hundreds of cities--even Milan and London amongst other world cities. Our peaceful protests nationwide played a key role in reminding elected officials THEY WORK FOR US and they MUST hold Trump and his regime accountable!  We can disagree on things, but deep criminality, gross graft, extreme self-aggrandizement used to be unacceptable by everyone. Now it seems the norm for our GOP.

Did the Climate March change the country or world? Paraphrasing Bobby Kennedy (google him if you don't know) said, "It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope... a million different centers of energy... ripples build a current which can sweep... walls of oppression and injustice."

We just need more ripples.  We The People need to stand up and stand tall.
