🌱 The Story Behind the Bean

Founded in 1976, the Layo Teraga Cooperative provides market access for its smallholder members in Guji—an area where coffee prices were historically lower than neighboring Gedeo or Sidama zones due to lack of direct access. By organizing together, the cooperative has empowered farmers to receive fair prices and recognition for their exceptional coffees.

Located in northern Uraga, in the Guji zone, the cooperative now includes 1,841 smallholder members. These farmers cultivate coffee in semi-forested gardens surrounding their homes at breathtaking altitudes of 2,342 masl. This high elevation, combined with Ethiopia’s unique terroir, produces a cup that bursts with fruit-forward brightness and delicate sweetness.
